Day 1: Colombo - Dambulla

Arrive Colombo & travel to Sigiriya: Arrive at Colombo International Airport. Please clear immigration and visa formalities, collect your baggage and proceed to the arrival lounge through the green channel if you do not have goods to be declared to customs. TOTAL HOLIDAY OPTIONS Executive will page you by your name at the arrival lounge. Thereafter you will be assisted with a transfer towards the cultural city of Dambulla.

Afternoon visit to Dambulla Cave Temple: Located north of Kandy, Dambulla is a town built around a vast isolated rock. 

mass and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The name Dambulla was derived from the words Damba meaning rock and Ulla meaning fountain. The Dambulla temple complex comprises five caves which have been converted into shrine rooms, images of the Buddha, and over 1,500 ceiling murals. The caves are at the base of a 150m high rock built by King Valagambahu who took refuge in it when exiled from Anuradhapura in the 1st century BC. When he reclaimed the capital, he turned these caves into a rock temple as a thank-you are offering. Over the centuries that followed further improvements were made including one by King Nissankamalla who gilded the inside of the temple, earning it the name Ran Giri (Golden Rock) and added 70 statues of the Buddha in the 12th century.

This temple is by far the most impressive of the many cave temples found in Sri Lanka and is considered the best preserved and 

the largest in the island. Return to the hotel and prepare yourselves for dinner.

Day 2: Dambulla - Sigiriya - Minneriya - Dambulla

Ascend the Sigiriya Rock Fortress: Wake up early in the morning and after breakfast you will head towards Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Found in the center of the cultural triangle, Sigiriya, is another exceptional architectural, artistic, and engineering landmark of ancient Sri Lanka. Carved into the rock on the orders of King Kashyapa, he used the rock to build his fortress to provide him with the ultimate protection against an attack. The King build himself a palace at the top of the rock along with a village for his followers at the bottom of the rock decorated with water gardens containing baths and fountains that still work to this day. Often referred to as “Lion Rock”, Sigiriya, is also famous for its frescos that depict the “Damsels of Sigiriya” which date back to the 5th century AD. With close to 1200 steps, the climb can be quite challenging but is worth it once you get to the top. We recommend starting at 6:30 am with a cup of tea or coffee and a snack to beat the heat and the crowds and heading back to the hotel for a hearty breakfast and dip in the pool.

Explore Polonnaruwa ancient city: Polonnaruwa was Sri Lanka’s spectacular second ancient city, and the ruins from this golden age vividly reflect some of the most well-preserved architectural treasures of the time. Dating back to the tenth century, the ruins incorporate palaces, monasteries, Buddhist, and Hindu temples, dagobas and many beautiful statues, and sit beneath shady trees near the Parakrama Samudra Tank. The compact site can easily be visited in a day, and the best way to see all the sights is to hire a bicycle and gently peddle between the ruins.

Day 3: Dambulla - Matale - Kandy

Travel to Kandy (en-route visit Matale Spice Garden) : Enjoy a delicious breakfast at the hotel. Today you will continue. 

towards the last held hill country capital – Kandy. On route you will make a visit to Matale Spice Garden. You will be. 

introduced to different spices and shown how some of these spices are grown and processed. A processing and training unit has been set up in the area and farmers are grouped in a cooperative to ensure fair prices and you will also be able to purchase spices. Gardens are open to visitors, a delightful place to stroll in fragrant greenery and learn about nutmeg, pepper vines, clove trees and curry, cinnamon and the precious cardamom, a relative of ginger. It grows in the shade of high jungle trees and can only be harvested by hand.

Kandy city tour (visit the sacred Temple of The Tooth Relic and Cultura show): After relaxing for some time, in the 

afternoon you will explore this heritage city on foot. Kandy is the capital of and gateway to Sri Lanka's majestic verdant hill country, a spiraling town surrounded by picturesque foothills which has a fascinating history. The last Sinhalese king of Kandy, Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe converted a large paddy field adjoining the Temple of the Tooth to build this lake in 1807. Devendra Moolacharya was it’s architect. There was also a dam across the paddy fields, starting from the Pattiruppuwa (Octagon) side, where the steps leading into the lake by the Mahamaluwa (Great Terrace) are still visible. Today the Kandy Lake undoubtedly enhances the city’s beauty with the unique wall ‘Diyarali Bamma’ depicting ripples of water, surrounding it. The Temple of the sacred Tooth Relic, also known as Sri Dalada Maligawa is the edifice that enshrines the sacred Tooth of the Buddha, located within the royal palace complex in Kandy. The sacred relic was brought to Sri Lanka in the 3rd century BC and since have been closely associated with royalty of the island nation with magnificent temples built to enshrine it in every kingdom. End the tour by seeing a spectacular show of Kandyan dance or investigating the beautiful old paintings which decorate the temples in and around the city centre.

Day 4: Kandy - Nuwara Eliya

Travel to Nuwara Eliya (Train ride) : After breakfast. travel to Kandy railway station to board the train to Nuwara Eliya. Said to be one of the most scenic train rides in the world, the Kandy to Nuwara Eliya rail route runs on the original tracks built by the British in 1864. Originally designed to transport tea and coffee from hillside estates, it’s now an important means of connecting major cities and a tourist attraction in its own right. The first quarter of the four-hour journey is, honestly, a little underwhelming. With expectations of stunning views of rolling hills, it’s easy to forget one needs to first get out of Kandy. Passing the outskirts of the city is quite interesting. Family houses back right onto the tracks and give you a glimpse into local life. As the train starts to ascend so does the outlook. Arriving at Nuwara Eliya, your chauffeur will be waiting for you at the railway station.

City Tour of Nuwara Eliya: Today we enjoy the city tour of Nuwara Eliya town. Nuwara Eliya also nicknamed Little England, rest & recuperate center of the colonial British tea planters and dignitaries. Listed are some top attractions we visit, including Hanuman Temple, Gregory Lake and Victoria Park. Enjoy a 20-minute speedboat ride on Gregory Lake. Stroll the Victoria Park, spreads out on27 acres of land and is full of trees and flowers. Browse the Winter Market, the Bale Bazaar selling winter clothes for the cold Nuwara Eliya weather. Visit the Shri Bhakta Hanuman Temple and enjoy the incredible views from the top.

Inside you can admire the famous 4.8 m tall statue of Hanuman, carved into a striking figure from black granite. After the city tour, return to the hotel in Kandy. After the city tour, check-in at the hotel and relax.

Day 5: Nuwara Eliya - Yala

Travel to Yala (en-route witness the cascade of Ravana falls): A filling breakfast is ready for another active day. Today you will continue towards the inland paradise - Yala. On the way you will make a stop to witness the cascade of Ravana falls. This marvelous waterfall is one of the widest in Sri Lanka and is one of the top attractions to see in the quaint town of Ella, Sri Lanka. With fantastic views that look out to the surrounding valleys and mountains – it is definitely worth the visit.The Ramayana Epic is a famous legendary tale that has been passed down many generations, and has been tied to many historical locations around the country. One of them is the Ravana Falls, which has a very significant story behind its existence. King Ravana kidnapped Princess Sita and held her captive in a cave, and the Ravana Falls nearby was where she used to bathe, therefore these falls carry significance due to this history. This has always been an epic tale retold in various ways over the last decades which have intrigued many people. Even though is sounds like a fictional story, there has been proof in how these ancient archaeological sites have been discovered. Transport: By Surface (Approx. 4 Hrs. Evening visit to Kataragama Temple: Kataragama temple is in the multi-religious sacred city – Kataragama in Uva province, Sri Lanka. This temple complex is dedicated to God Kataragama usually is called Murugan or Kartikeya by Tamils & Kandasamy or God Skandha by Hindus. It is one of the few religious sites in Sri Lanka that is venerated by all the nationals - Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims and the Vedda people. For most of the past millennia, it was a jungle shrine very difficult to access; today it is accessible by an all-weather road. The shrines and the nearby Kiri Vehera are managed by Buddhists, the shrines dedicated to Teyvāṉai and Shiva are managed by Hindus and the mosque by Muslims.

Day 6: Yala - Galle - Beruwala

Morning safari at Yala National Park : Morning, immerse yourself in nature and embark on a unique safari experience in Sri Lanka's most popular wildlife sanctuary Yala National Park. It is a huge area of forest, grassland and lagoons bordering the Indian Ocean, in southeast Sri Lanka. Hop into one of the Jeeps commanded by a knowledgeable ranger, for a guided tour tracking the impressive number of elephants, crocodiles, buffaloes and hopefully, a leopard along the way. Despite the elusive nature of the leopard species, Yala boasts one of the densest leopard populations on the globe, increasing the likelihood of an encounter. Yala National Park plays a very significant role in the conservation of alarge number of flora and fauna species in Sri Lanka, many of which are endemic to the island. On the way, you will engage on a walking tour at Galle Dutch Fort. Galle is a jewel. A Unesco World Heritage Site, this historic city is a delight to explore on foot, an endlessly exotic old trading port blessed with imposing Dutch-colonial buildings, ancient mosques and churches, grand mansions and museums. Wandering its rambling lanes you will pass stylish cafes, quirky boutiques and impeccably restored hotels owned by local and foreign artists, writers, photographers and designers.
